  • Professor Perry J. Pickhardt, MD

    Dr. Perry J. Pickhardt graduated from the University of Michigan Medical School in 1995. From 1995-1999, he was a resident in diagnostic radiology at the Mallinckrodt Institute of Radiology at Washington University in St. Louis. After residency training, Dr. Pickhardt served in the U.S. Navy, spending one year as the Department Head of Radiology, U.S. Naval Hospital Guantanamo Bay, Cuba and three years as the head of GI-GU Imaging at the National Naval Medical Center (NNMC) in Bethesda, MD. Dr. Pickhardt joined the Abdominal Imaging Section at the University of Wisconsin School of Medicine and Public Health in 2003, and was promoted to full professor in 2009. He serves as the Chief of Gastrointestinal Imaging and Medical Director of Cancer Imaging.  His work in abdominal imaging has resulted in over 500 scientific publications and book chapters, as well as multiple textbooks. 

  • Associate Professor Cher Heng Tan

    Dr Cher Heng Tan graduated with MBBS (Singapore) and FRCR (UK). He completed his Diagnostic Radiology training in Singapore and Abdominal Imaging Fellowship at MD Anderson Cancer Center. More recently, he received his Executive MBA from Insead.  

    He is presently a Senior Consultant with the Department of Diagnostic Radiology at Tan Tock Seng Hospital, where he also serves as Assistant Chairman Medical Board (Clinical Research and Innovation) and Executive Director of Centre for Healthcare Innovation. During his tenure, he has overseen the set-up of the hospital’s investigational medicine unit and 3D-printing centre. He concurrently holds the appointment of Assistant Dean (Clinical Research) at the Lee Kong Chian School of Medicine.  

    Dr Tan is the immediate Past President of the Singapore Radiological Society, President-elect to the Asian Society of Abdominal Radiology, and Executive Councillor in the Asian Oceanian Society of Radiology (for his role as Chair of the Emerging Trends Committee). He delivered the ASAR Honorary lecture at ESGAR 2021 on HCC imaging.  

    Dr Tan’s subspecialty interests are in abdominal oncologic imaging with MRI and more recently, the adoption of artificial intelligence in medical imaging. He is a recipient of several national grant funded research projects, has published more than 120 peer-reviewed scientific publications and book chapters. He has received multiple teaching awards and is a viva examiner for post-graduate FRCR 2B exams in Singapore.   

  • Dr Damian Tolan

    Dr Damian Tolan is a Consultant in gastrointestinal and abdominal radiology at St James’s University Hospital and an Honorary Senior Lecturer at the University of Leeds. He specialises in imaging related to colorectal and small bowel disease. He graduated from the University of Leeds in 1997, completing training in General Medicine and Gastroenterology before Radiology training in Yorkshire, culminating in Fellowship at University College London Hospital with Steve Halligan and Stuart Taylor. Since 2007 Damian’s clinical and academic interests have focused on multimodality imaging in colorectal cancer including CT Colonography, Crohn’s disease, post operative and acute abdominal disorders and optimising surgical techniques.

    Dr Tolan was President of BSGAR from 2022-24 and a member of the ESGAR Executive Committee and Chair of their Membership and Communication committee. He has led and contributed to numerous UK and International Guidelines in GI imaging and he produces the ESR curriculum updates for ESGAR. He is happily married to Emma, has 5 kids and a dog called Haggis. He loves Irish rugby and meeting new people.

Local Faculty

  • Dr Joe Feltham

    Joe Feltham is a consultant radiologist at Pacific Radiology and Wellington Public Hospital in Wellington, New Zealand (famous everywhere as the coolest little capital in the world). He splits his time between Interventional Oncology (with a focus on liver embolic therapies and body ablation) and advanced diagnostic abdominal imaging (with a focus on hepato-biliary and colorectal MRI and CT). He is a council member on the NZ branch of the RANZCR; and provides radiology representation on the National Bowel Cancer Working Group (NBCWG) and the Central Cancer Network upper GI cancer working group. He undertook an abdominal & interventional fellowship in 2007 in Melbourne under Associate Prof Andrew Little, but returned to NZ in 2011 to be closer to family and skiing, and to escape never-ending discussions on the wonders of AFL.

  • Dr Angela Gerstenmaier

    Consultant Radiologist Monash Health, Melbourne. Clinical Lead for Abdominal Imaging. Completed Radiology training and Body Imaging Fellowship at St Vincent’s Hospital, Melbourne. Subspeciality interest area in IBD.

  • Dr Mark Goodwin

    Dr Mark Goodwin is a specialist Interventional and Hepatobiliary radiologist. Interventional Radiology (IR) is an independent medical specialty, which uses minimally invasive techniques to diagnose and treat conditions in almost every organ system in the body. Dr Goodwin performs a wide range of procedures, with a particular focus on interventional oncology – the minimally invasive diagnosis and targeted treatment of cancer. He also performs a large number of procedures not related to cancer. Dr Goodwin has a particular interest and extensive experience in the diagnosis, staging and treatment of primary and secondary liver cancers. As well as his interventional work, Dr Goodwin is an acknowledged expert in advanced imaging of the liver, pancreas and biliary systems.

  • Dr Kirsten Gormly

    Dr Kirsten Gormly is a radiologist and partner at Jones Radiology, South Australia. She has special interests in oncology imaging and pelvic MRI including rectal cancer, prostate cancer, female urology, and benign and malignant gynaecological conditions. She was trained in rectal MRI by Prof. Gina Brown while working at the Royal Marsden Hospital, London in 2002-4. Kirsten is an invited speaker at many national and international meetings, runs radiologist workshops in rectal cancer and is pleased to contribute to the Radiology Across Borders free education program. She has a number of publications, including invited international perspective articles, contributed to the French GRERCAR Rectal MRI guidelines and is a panel member of the European Society of Gastrointestinal and Abdominal Radiology (ESGAR) rectal MRI consensus guideline update 2024. She is actively involved in research in rectal and prostate cancer with an honorary Clinical Senior Lecturer position at The University of Adelaide. Kirsten promotes collaboration between radiologists and other speciality groups. She is a past chair of ARGANZ and life member since 2021, a current member of the ARGANZ executive and was elected as a corresponding fellow of ESGAR in 2023. She is the radiologist member of the lower GI working party of the Australasian Gastrointestinal Trials Group (AGITG), research committee member of the SA Prostate Cancer Clinical Outcomes Collaborative (SA-PCCOC) and member of the Membership committee of ESGAR.

  • Prof Sandy Heriot

    Professor Alexander Heriot is a Consultant Colorectal Surgeon and is the Director of Cancer Surgery at Peter MacCallum Cancer Centre in Melbourne and Director of the Lower GI Tumour stream at the Victorian Comprehensive Cancer Centre. He has a clinical focus on lower gastrointestinal oncology and has developed the Pelvic Exenteration service and the Peritoneal disease service at Peter Mac. He also has a focus on minimally invasive surgery for colorectal cancer with a particular interest in the development, application, and teaching of robotic colorectal surgery. Professor Heriot is a Clinical Professorial Fellow at the University of Melbourne. He was awarded the John Mitchell Crouch fellowship by RACS for 2016 and a Hunterian Professorship from the Royal College of Surgeons of England in 2022. He is Chairman of the Australasian Training Board in Colorectal Surgery (ANZTBCRS) and of the Binational Colorectal Cancer Outcome Registry. He has published over 410 peer reviewed papers, multiple book chapters and 1 book. He is on the editorial advisory board for Disease of the Colon and Rectum, Annals of Surgical Oncology, and Colorectal Cancer. He runs a translational research program focusing on lower gastrointestinal oncology and has raised over $12 million in grants and is currently/has supervised 33 surgeons undertaking higher degrees.

  • Dr Yu Xuan Kitzing

    Dr Kitzing is a senior staff specialist at Royal Prince Alfred Hospital and Chris O’Brien Lifehouse. She has a strong interest in abdominal and pelvic MR imaging. She is the lead radiologist for the gynaeoncology multidisciplinary team at Chris O’Brien Lifehouse and is involved in research in gynaeoncology and peritoneal malignancy imaging.

  • Dr Numan Kutaiba

    Numan Kutaiba finished medical training at the University of Baghdad, Iraq. He moved to Australia and completed a Master’s degree in Clinical Epidemiology prior to training in Radiology at Austin Health. He currently works at Austin Health as an abdominal and breast radiologist. He is undertaking a part-time PhD in artificial intelligence for liver imaging.

  • Dr Annah Lane

    Dr Annah Lane is a Radiologist at Queensland Xray (QXR) and Royal Brisbane and Women’s Hospital (RBWH). She completed a fellowship in Women’s and Abdominal Imaging with QXR in Brisbane and, subsequently, an observership in Obstetric MRI at Royal Women’s Hospital, Melbourne. She regularly takes part in the Mater Public Hospital Gynaecology Oncology, Placenta Accreta Spectrum and Breast MDTs and the RBWH Maternal Fetal Medicine MDT.

  • Dr Sidney Levy

    Dr Levy is a dual trained Radiologist and Nuclear Medicine Specialist with local and international postgraduate fellowship training in nuclear medicine, positron emission tomography, urological, head and neck and musculoskeletal MRI. He completed his PhD on the biology of lymphoedema through the Ludwig Institute of Cancer Research, Peter MacCallum Cancer Centre and University of Melbourne.

  • Dr Eisen Liang

    Dr Eisen Liang graduated from UNSW in Sydney and received his diagnostic and interventional radiology training in Hong Kong. He founded Sydney Interventional Radiology and Sydney Fibroid Clinic. He has clinical and research interests in gynaecological interventions such as embolisation for fibroids, adenomyosis and pelvic congestion syndrome. He works closely with gynaecologists, focusing on uterine sparing treatment options for women with fibroids and adenomyosis. His case series on UAE for fibroids and adenomyosis have been published in ANZJOG in 2012, 2018 and 2021.

  • Mr Jacob McCormick

    Jacob McCormick is a specialist Colorectal Surgeon. He studied medicine at the University of Tasmania, graduating in 2004. He qualified as a General Surgeon in 2011 having trained through the Royal Melbourne Hospital. He then completed three years of specialist colorectal fellowships in Australia and New Zealand.

    He specializes in all areas of colorectal surgery and has a particular interest in minimally invasive management as well as extended surgery for locally advanced and recurrent rectal and pelvic cancers; an area in which he is currently completing a Master’s Degree.

    He is a Fellow of the Royal Australasian College of Surgeons and a Member of the Colorectal Surgical Society of Australia and New Zealand.

    Other areas of expertise include advanced colonoscopy and peritioneal disease, including cytoreduction and heated intra-peritoneal chemotherapy. Supervisor of Colorectal Surgical Training at Royal Melbourne Hospital and Peter MacCallum Cancer Centre.

  • Dr Kate McLean

    Dr Kate McLean is a diagnostic radiologist at the Princess Alexandra Hospital in Brisbane with specialty interest areas in hepatopancreatobiliary and colorectal imaging. She is the lead of the ARGANZ liver interest group and a collaborator with Cancer Alliance Queensland.

  • Dr Divya Mehta

    Dr Divya Mehta completed her radiology training in Auckland in 2017, followed by Oncology Imaging fellowship at Peter MacCallum Cancer Centre in Melbourne. She is a Consultant Radiologist at Auckland City Hospital, involved with the Hepatoma and Colorectal Cancer MDMs and a Director of Training for radiology trainees.

  • Dr Catherine Mitchell

    Dr Catherine Mitchell is an Anatomical Pathologist at the Peter MacCallum Cancer Centre, with over 15 years experience in reporting surgical specimens. She is particularly interested in tumour pathology, with areas of interest including soft tissue, genitourinary and gastrointestinal pathology.

  • Dr Helen Moore

    Dr Helen Moore obtained her FRANZCR in 2000, and completed an Advanced Training position in MRI at Monash Medical Centre (2002). Her main interests are abdominal and pelvic imaging, and she is a Body imaging sub-specialist at Auckland City Hospital, and at Auckland Radiology Group where she has been performing CT Colonography since 2003. She has published several papers on CTC and presented lectures on the topic at international meetings and workshops. She served three terms on the executive committee of ARGANZ and is on the RANZCR CTC Accreditation committee. She served on the NZ National Bowel cancer Working group from 2015-2019, and the Northern Regional Bowel Cancer tumour Stream 2010-2021.

  • A/Prof Michael Ng

    Michael is an honours graduate of Monash University Medical School, trained at Peter MacCallum Cancer Centre and spent his fellowship year overseas at the Royal Marsden Hospital, United Kingdom. He has been working with GenesisCare since 2009 and is head of the stereotactic radiation therapy service at GenesisCare Victoria. He has previously been radiotherapy chair of EviQ cancer guidelines and is advisor to the federal government Department of Health on the Medical Services Advisory Committee (MSAC) which appraises new medical services proposed for public funding.

  • Dr Deepak Prasad

    Dr Deepak Prasad graduated from the University of Mysore, India, in 1999. Subsequently, he moved to the UK and undertook specialist medical training in Aberdeen, Scotland, obtaining membership in the Royal College of Physicians of the UK. He trained in radiology at Aberdeen, Scotland and achieved the Fellowship of the Royal College of Radiologists of the UK in 2008. He has undertaken a gastrointestinal radiology fellowship at University College Hospital, London and a one-year abdominal imaging fellowship at Leeds Teaching Hospitals. He then worked as a consultant abdominal radiologist at Bradford Teaching Hospitals from 2010 to 2012 and was affiliated with the Bradford Digestive Diseases Centre. In 2013 he joined PRP Diagnostic Imaging. His special interests include abdominal imaging (especially CT colonography and abdominopelvic MRI), oncology imaging, imaging-guided intervention and CTCA.

  • Dr Dean Rabinowitz

    Dr Dean Rabinowitz trained in Radiology between Royal Perth Hospital in WA and Prince of Wales Hospital in Sydney before obtaining advanced training in cardiac CT/MRI and body imaging (with MRI emphasis) in 2013-14. He currently holds a staff specialist position at Prince of Wales/Sydney Children’s Hospital (body imaging/oncology intervention/cardiothoracic subspecialist roles). He has an interest in contrast enhanced ultrasound and has established a clinical for this at Prince of Wales Hospital. He is a conjoint lecturer with the POWH-UNSW Clinical School and has been a Director of Training at Prince of Wales Hospital.

  • Dr Jane Reeve

    Dr Jane Reeve received her fellowship in 2007. She has worked at Middlemore Hospital, for Queensland X-ray in Brisbane and since 2012, has worked as a Body imaging sub-specialist at Auckland District Health Board and for Mercy Radiology, where she specialised in Oncological Imaging and PET CT. She has been reporting CT Colonography since 2012 and heads the CT Colonography service at Auckland District Health Board. She has co-authored papers on CT Colonography.

  • Dr Melanie Seale

    Dr Melanie Seale graduated from the University of Melbourne in 1997. She completed radiology training at St Vincent’s Hospital Melbourne in 2007, including a Fellowship in Body Imaging in 2006. Melanie was appointed a Research Fellow at Massachusetts General Hospital, Boston USA from August 2008- July 2009, and has special interest in the areas of body and breast imaging.

  • Dr James Seow

    Dr James Seow is an Abdominal Radiologist at Royal Perth Hospital, with a primary interest in Liver Imaging, having completed subspecialty fellowships in Abdominal & Hepatobiliary Imaging at RPH & Austin Health (Victorian Liver Transplant Unit). James has been an Executive Committee Member of both ARGANZ & the RANZCR WA Branch since 2013, and has been part of the American College of Radiology LI-RADS Surveillance (formerly US LI-RADS) Working Group since 2017. At Royal Perth Hospital he currently serves as the Director of Training, regularly chairs the weekly HCC multidisciplinary meeting, and has a keen interest in registrar teaching.

  • A/Prof Clair Shadbolt

    Director of Radiology, Royal Women’s Hospital, Melbourne. Clair has sub specialty interest in Women’s Imaging. She is the Clinical Director of Radiology at the Royal Women’s Hospital and is an Honorary Fellow of the University of Melbourne, Faculty of Medicine. Clair is the Course Convenor of the Melbourne Intensive Pelvic MRI teaching courses. She is also a foundation faculty member of the Melbourne Intensive Breast MRI & Contrast Mammography courses. Clair has authored several peer reviewed journal articles and book chapters, and has presented widely at local, national and international scientific meetings. She is on the FIGO sub-committee for the classification of Adenomyosis, the O-RADS MRI working group and the editorial board of Cancer Imaging.

  • Dr Sarah Skinner

    Sarah is a general radiologist at Bendigo Health and Bendigo Radiology. Sarah trained in Adelaide before making a tree-change to regional Victoria. Her interests are genitourinary and oncology imaging, in particular PET and pelvic MRI. She is an Abdominal examiner for RANZCR and a member of the MRI Reference Group. She joined the ARGANZ executive in 2018. 

  • Dr Arj Somasundaram

    Arj is a radiologist who works at the Gold Coast University Hospital and privately at Queensland X-Ray in Brisbane. After completing a fellowship in cross sectional imaging in Toronto in 2019, he returned to Queensland, focusing mostly on abdominal and pelvic CT/MRI and non-vascular intervention. Arj is a current executive member of ARGANZ as well as the chair of the RANZCR Qld Branch Committee.

  • A/Prof Damien Stella

    Associate Professor Damien Stella is Director of CT at Royal Melbourne Hospital (Melbourne, Australia) where he has worked as a consultant radiologist since 2001. He trained in radiology at Austin Hospital (Melbourne, Australia), followed by fellowships in MRI (Austin Hospital) and Body Imaging (UCSD Medical Center, San Diego, USA). He has authored 50 publications and two book chapters. His clinical and research interests encompass many aspects of abdominal CT and MR imaging, particularly the liver and small bowel. His non clinical roles include appointments as an Associate Editor for JMIRO and as a regular examiner for the Part 2 RANZCR oral exams.

     

  • Dr Won Kyung Sung

    Dr Won Kyung Sung (MBBS, FRANZCR) has been a radiologist in Qscan Radiology Clinic since 2014. Won Kyung completed her undergraduate training from the University of Adelaide in 2004 and completed her internship and residency at Royal Adelaide Hospital. Won Kyung trained in Diagnostic Radiology at Flinders Medical Centre, completing RANZCR specialist college of radiology examinations in 2010. In 2011 she took a fellowship in MRI at Flinders Medical Centre, followed by observership in Abdominal Imaging at Duke University Hospital, Durham, USA in 2012. Upon returning to Australia in 2013, Won Kyung worked as a diagnostic radiologist at Royal Darwin Hospital. Upon relocating to Brisbane she has joined Qscan Radiology Clinic in 2014. Won Kyung has been employed as a consultant radiologist at Royal Brisbane and Women’s Hospital since 2016 and continues to serve as a senior staff specialist, where she is dedicated to training and teaching of resgistras as well as being involved in colorectal and hepatobiliary multi-disciplinary meetings. Won Kyung’s subspecialty interests include body imaging where she is currently serving as an executive member of Abdominal Radiology Group Australia and New Zealand (ARGANZ). She also has keen interest on musculoskeletal imaging.

  • A/Prof Tom Sutherland

    A/Prof Tom Sutherland is an abdominal radiologist and director of medical imaging at St Vincent’s Hospital. He is responsible for the upper gastrointestinal, hepatobiliary and urology MDM’s and has authored over 80 peer review articles and a number of text book chapters. He has a strong interest in health advocacy and keeping things simple.

  • Dr Teng Han Tan

    Dr Teng Han Tan is a consultant radiologist at the Peter MacCallum Cancer Centre in Melbourne. He is the CT Lead Radiologist for the Department of Radiology at Peter Mac, and is an Honorary Clinical Lecturer at the Sir Peter MacCallum Department of Oncology at the University of Melbourne. A Body Radiologist with an interest in Pelvic MRI, he participates in the Lower GI and Gynae Oncology MDMs.

  • Prof Jeanne Tie

    Prof Jeanne Tie is the lower gastrointestinal medical oncology and research lead at the Peter MacCallum Cancer Centre, and senior research fellow at the Walter and Eliza Hall Institute, Melbourne, Australia. Her research focusses on personalising treatment for patients with colorectal cancer with prognostic and predictive biomarkers, in particular the clinical applications of circulating tumour DNA (ctDNA). She leads several world’s first ctDNA-based randomized clinical trials (DYNAMIC studies) in colorectal cancer which aim to assess the clinical utility of ctDNA as a minimal residual disease marker to guide adjuvant treatment decision. She has published extensively in the field of ctDNA and colorectal cancer and serves on the Australasian Gastrointestinal Trials Group (AGITG) Scientific Advisory Committee and Lower GI working party (Chair), Cancer Adjudication Committee for the ASPREE (Aspirin in Reducing Events in the Elderly) International study, and ESMO (European Society for Medical Oncology) Gastro-Intestinal Tumours Faculty.

  • Dr Leon Winata

    Leon Winata is a radiologist who completed his radiology training and abdominal imaging fellowship at St Vincent’s Hospital in Melbourne. His areas of interest are in liver and anorectal imaging. He is currently a member of the TOPCLASS International Perianal Fistula Disease consortium and has an interest in image guided percutaneous biopsies and procedures.

  • Dr Verity Wood

    Verity is an abdominal radiologist working at Te Whatu Ora Waitaha, Christchurch. In 2018 she completed a fellowship in Body Imaging and Intervention in Vancouver through the University of British Columbia.
    She is a director of training and has recently joined the Te Aho o Te Kahu, Cancer Control Agency MDM advisory group. Verity is actively involved in weekly hepatobiliary and colorectal MDMs.

  • Dr Jessica Yang

    Dr Jessica Yang is a consultant radiologist at Concord and Macquarie University Hospitals in Sydney and specialises in abdominal and pelvic imaging. She works closely with clinical specialties and is an active member in multidisciplinary team meetings including liver, colorectal, prostate, IBD, paediatric IBD and pelvic floor. She is involved in multiple research projects, frequently in collaboration with clinical specialties. Her team’s research on abbreviated MRI for HCC surveillance was awarded the Mendelson Research Prize in 2019 and the project is currently being funded by a grant for a prospective pilot study. She is one of the chief investigators on the MRFF funded SCANPatient clinical trial. Her research has been published in high impact factor journals such as Radiology, Clinical gastroenterology and hepatology, European Radiology and Abdominal Radiology. Jessica was an author on the ESGAR consensus statement on the imaging of fistula-in-ano and other causes of anal sepsis. Jessica has been invited to speak at international and national meetings and workshops including at the European Society of Gastrointestinal and Abdominal Radiology (ESGAR) meeting.
